Scholarships:

The Upper Moreland Police Benevolent Association has two scholarships for graduating seniors planning to attend college. One is for students interested in a career in Criminal Justice/Administration of Justice, the second is for students who have performed community service. The requirements include an essay. The deadline for submission is May 10, 2013. Please come to guidance for forms.

The Upper Moreland teachers award several $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who have a GPA of at least 80% and have shown consistent contribution to the school. Applications are now available on the high school website. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Sugarman in Room 401.

ATTENTION all current 10th and 11th grade students who are interested in an amazing Leadership opportunity: Villanova University is hosting the ALSF Leadership Academy, being held July 29 through August 1. This free overnight experience is based on Alex's (of Alex's Lemonade Stands) inspiring example of how one person can make a difference. Please see your school counselor if interested. Deadline is April 5th!



Girls interested in computer science are invited to attend the Women in Computer Science High School Day for Girls on Friday April 19th from 8:30 - 2:30PM at the University of Pennsylvania. Interested students should register at www.cis.upenn.edu/ugrad/hs-outreach.shtml . The day includes attending a class and tours of the lab.



Students who are planning to take an AP exam must register prior to the March 22nd deadline. The cost is $89 per exam cash or check made payable to Upper Moreland High School. Payments must be made in the guidance office.


9th-11th grade students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Mathematics should consider attending the United States Naval Academy’s 2013 Summer STEM Program. More information as well as program dates are available in Guidance.

10th-12th grade students interested in Business should consider attending Susquehanna University’s Leadership Institute for Entrepreneurship (LIFE)program. The program will be held from July 7th-13th. More information is available in Guidance.

10th-12th grade students interested in taking classes (and gaining credits)over the summer should consider attending the George Washington University Pre-College Program. More information and program dates are available in Guidance.

College bound seniors interested majoring in Engineering, Technology, Design,or Business with an interest in the automotive industry to consider applying for a scholarship funded by Buick. More information is available in Guidance.


The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences
The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences will return to Carnegie Mellon University this summer. The cost is being underwritten by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, with matching funds provided by the PGSS Campaign, Inc., through generous donations from PGSS alumni, parents and corporations.

In partnership with Carnegie Mellon University, the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is pleased to announce that the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences (PGSS) is now accepting applications from high school juniors for the summer 2013 program.PGSS is a five-week summer residential program, which emphasizes cooperative learning and hands-on laboratory research, for 56 talented high school students of science and mathematics.

With support from PDE, Carnegie Mellon University, and alumni and friends of the PGSS, the program offers an enrichment experience in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The goal of PGSS is to encourage young talent to pursue careers in STEM-related fields.

Successful applicants receive a full scholarship to the PGSS program. The cost is underwritten by PDE with matching funds provided by PGSS alumni, parents and corporations. The scholarship includes housing, meals and all instructional materials. Families are responsible for the cost of transportation to and from the university, personal items and spending money. Students must commit to being in residence on the Carnegie Mellon University campus for the duration of the program. Trips home during the program are not permitted.

The application must be completed and mailed by the applicant’s guidance counselor no later than Monday, January 28, 2013, and received in the PGSS Program Office no later than 5 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2013.

Drexel University College of Medicine offers Mini-Med Summer Camps at Hahnemann University Hospital. This is an opportunity for students interested in exploring medicine as a career. Attn sophomores: students interested in leadership, service and innovation can apply to become a HOBY Ambassadors. The HOBY Ambassador will attend a weekend leadership seminar and meet students from around the world. Students interested in applying can pick up the application essay in the guidance office.
